Holoholo General Store

Project Description

Holoholo General Store

photography, writing

Holoholo General Store is the umbrella that shelters the Red Barn Farmstand, Holoholo Farm, a food hub distribution network and a robust community-supported agriculture (CSA) program. Holoholo General Store’s team was the inaugural first-place winner of the Kamehameha Schools’ 2014 Mahi‘ai Match-up Agribusiness Plan Contest, securing 6.3 acres of rent-waived farmland for five years. The food hub network includes 15 local farms and more than 20 CSA delivery points around O‘ahu. The business helps farmers by aggregating, marketing and distributing local produce, and connects Hawai‘i’s people with fresh food by delivering directly to schools, businesses, restaurants and retailers.

CSA partners Jill Nordby and Jamie Sexton wanted to help their customers make better use of their produce by offering tips, meal plans and recipes in their newsletter and blog. Twice-monthly newsletters sent to CSA customers and weekly blog posts were intended to highlight what’s growing at the farm, ways families could get the most out of their produce and offer a recipe featuring an in-season item.
